Kava & kratom, explained.

Two plants, two very different feelings, one rule: go slow, give it ten minutes, and ask your kavatender anything.

A coconut shell of kava at Karma
Kava

The root of the South Pacific.

Kava is a pepper plant grown across Vanuatu, Fiji and Tonga, where it has been shared in shells for 3,000 years. The root is ground, kneaded with water and strained. What comes out is earthy, a little peppery, and makes your lips tingle.

The feeling: relaxed body, clear head. Social, calm, conversational. Most people describe it as the ease of a couple of drinks without the fog, and there is no hangover.

We import ours directly from Vanuatu. Loloma is a lateral-root kava, heavier and body-forward. Yalo is a basal-root kava, lighter and more heady. Say “Bula!” and drink it in one go.

Shells: single $4, double $8, triple $11. Start with one.

Kratom tea 21+

The leaf of Southeast Asia.

Kratom is a leaf from the coffee family, brewed as tea for generations in Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia. We brew it fresh in house in three strains. White is bright and energizing, green sits in the middle, red is mellow and relaxing.

Our signature Vibe is a flavored kratom tea with zero sugar and zero calories. It is the most popular drink in the building for a reason.

Kratom teas are 21+ and we test for compliance with Florida’s kratom rules. It can be habit forming with daily use, so we will always tell you to keep it to a few times a week.

Questions we hear every night

FAQ

Is it alcohol? Will I get drunk?

No alcohol in anything we serve. Kava relaxes you without impairing your thinking the way alcohol does, but you should still not drive after a few shells.

How much should I have my first time?

One shell of kava, wait ten minutes, then decide. For kratom tea, start with a small Vibe. Have something in your stomach beforehand, but not a huge meal.

Do I have to be 21?

Kratom teas and Karma Glow are 21+. Kava, loose-leaf tea, coffee, sodas and food are open to all ages, and we welcome families during the day.

Why do my lips go numb?

That tingle is kavalactones doing their thing. It is normal and it passes in a few minutes.

Can I mix kava and kratom?

Plenty of regulars do, but if it is your first visit we suggest trying one at a time so you know how each feels on its own.

Can I work from Karma?

Please do. Fast Wi-Fi, outlets at the bar, loose-leaf tea and coffee from 8 AM. Mornings are quiet and happy hour runs until noon.

Is kratom legal in Florida?

Yes, for adults 21 and over under the Florida Kratom Consumer Protection Act. We only sell products that meet Florida’s labeling and testing rules.

These statements have not been evaluated by the FDA. Kava and kratom are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. Talk to your doctor before trying either if you take medication or have liver concerns.
